摘要:The problem of solving polynomial systems has been, and will continue to be, one of the most important subjects in both pure and applied mathematics. The need to solve systems of polynomial equations occurs frequently in various fields of science and engineering, such as, formula construction, geometric intersection problems, inverse kinematics, robotics, vision, power flow problem with PQ - specified buses, and the computation of equilibrium states of chemical reaction equations, etc.
In this talk, a numerical approach, developed in the last two decades, by using the homotopy continuation method will be surveyed. The method involves first solving a trivial system, and then deforming these solutions along smooth paths to the solutions of the target system. The method has been successfully implemented in solving many polynomial systems, and the amount of computation required to find all solutions can be made roughly proportional to the number of solutions.
