In recent years, modeling, mathematical analysis, and numerical solution of hemivariational inequalities, or more generally, variational-hemivariational inequalities, have attracted much attention in the research communities. Through the formulation of variational-hemivariational inequalities, application problems involving nonsmooth, monotone or non-monotone, multivalued constitutive laws, forces, and boundary conditions can be treated successfully. Variational-hemivariational inequalities have been successfully applied in a wide variety of subjects, ranging from nonsmooth mechanics, physics, engineering, to economics. This talk will provide an overview of the mathematical theory and numerical analysis of families of variational-hemivariational inequalities, with applications in solid mechanics and fluid mechanics. It will begin with a brief discussion of a model boundary value problem of an elliptic PDE, and then naturally extend the discussion to sample variational inequalities and hemivariational inequalities. The talk will be accessible to anyone with basic knowledge of PDEs.
主讲人简介:
韩渭敏教授,1983 年毕业于复旦大学数学系,1986 年在中科院计算中心获硕士学位,1991 年在美国马里兰大学获博士学位。1991年至今一直在爱荷华大学 (The University of Iowa) 任教, 现为数学系教授、系主任、Collegiate Fellow。在非线性、非光滑应用问题的建模、理论分析、数值解方面做过开创性和系统性的工作,特别是关于弹塑性变形、接触力学、流体力学等领域里的各种形式的变分不等式与半变分不等式的研究。发表论文200多篇,其中包括在Acta Numerica上的一篇邀请文章,并已出版多部专著。
