The nature of mathematical truth has been the subject of intensive research from both the mathematical and philosophical points of view for more than a hundred years. Despite significant advances, it is not clear that we are closer to the ultimate answer than when the subject was first raised. This talk surveys the milestones that led to the current state of knowledge and discusses the key issues and questions that are of major interest.

演讲人简历
Chong Chi Tat received his PhD from Yale University. His area of research is in mathematical logic, especially recursion (computability) theory. He was the Deputy President and Provost of the National University of Singapore from 1996 to 2004. He became Head of Mathematics Department in 2006. He currently holds the title of "University Professor" at the National University of Singapore, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of the Association for Symbolic Logic (USA). He is also a managing editor of the Journal of Mathematical Logic.
