MSc Positions

We are constantly seeking for students to join our research team as Master of Science (MSc) students. Students shall be highly self-motivated and innovative, and have strong interest in fields such as image processing, computer vision, machine learning and deep learning. To make it clear, this is a cross-subjects, application-oriented and fast-changing field, hence there will be some basic requirements on skills for you, listed as follows.

TL;DR: The most dicisive quality we want to see from you is your enthusiasm.

  • Programming: (Required)
    • Solid programming skill and background is required – however, you don’t need to be an expert of certain language to begin your work.
    • Feel free to choose the language of your favor – Languages used among us: Matlab(default), Python, Julia(brand new)
    • For those who want to do deep learning thing, familiarity with Python and Linux is required. Pytorch is the default deep learning framework in use.
  • Mathematics: (Required)
    • Linear algebra, mathematical modeling, optimization algorithms and numeric methods will be used throughout almost all your future research.
    • Bonus on subjects such as probability and statistic, functional analysis, differential equations and differential geometry, it will help you a lot if you are familiar with some of these subjects.
  • Languages: (Required)
    • You are required to read and write a lot in English during your study. – All up-to-date work in this field are in form of English.
    • Fluent spoken English is an advantage.
  • Others: (Optional)
    • Related background in this field is not strictly required, even though it will be a great advantage.
    • Tools such as Latex, Github, Linux, commend-line and etc., are what you will definitely meet in the future. For example, most of our collaboration is powered by latex and gitlab.

Note that these requirements are not strict in all sense and are simply used as a guideline for you; programming, mathematics and English is just your tools to live in this field, while insightfulness consists of all the intrinsic value of your work. We welcome whoever wants to study and develop this field :)

FAQs for potential MSc students:

  • You are encouraged and definitely will be pushed to write your own papers ASAP.
  • Basically all courses are in form of seminar – I don’t teach you, instead, I supervise and guide you.
  • Be self-motivated and don’t wait me to reach you – I’m not your babysitter.
  • you’re free to choose whatever relevant field you’re interested in – It’s just a matter of how much guidence I can offer since I’m not expert of all fields.
