Coarse geometry via uniformly bounded representations

Abstract:

I will discuss recent results with Kate Juschenko on the characterization of exact groups in terms of uniformly bounded representations on a Hilbert space. These results point to a new direction, an approach to coarse geometric properties via a "uniformly bounded dual", which generalizes the unitary dual of a group.
