Abstract:

The Connes-Kasparov theorem computes the K-theory of group C*-algebras. We call a representation of G is essential if it contributes to the K-theory group. In this talk, I will discuss some properties of essential G-representations. In particular, its relationship with Dirac cohomology, Plancherel measure and its parametrization. This is a joint work with Clare,Higson,Tang and Vogan.
