Title: On $4$-canonical map of threefolds of general type

Speaker: Yong Hu

Abstract: We answer an open problem raised by Chen-Zhang in 2008 and prove that, for any minimal projective 3-fold $X$ of general type with the geometric genus $p_g(X) \geq 5$, the $4$-canonical map $\varphi_{4,X}$ is non-birational if and only if $X$ is birationally equivalent to a fibration, onto a curve, of which the general fiber is a minimal surface of general type with $(c_1^2, p_g)=(1,2)$. This is a joint work with Meng Chen.

Title: Classification of algebraic surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1$

Speaker: Songbo Ling

Abstract: The classification of algebraic surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1$ has attracted the interest of many authors since they are irregular surfaces of general type with the lowest geometric genus. In this talk, I will first briefly introduce the classification of algebraic surfaces of general type with minimal holomorphic Euler characteristic, and then concentrate on the classification of algebraic surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1$, reviewing the classical results and reporting some recent progress. I will also represent some open problems related to this topic.

  • Lectures will take place in Room 102, Mathematics Building.
