Title: Remarks on the numerical simulation of the hydra transplant experiment
Abstract: In 1972 Gierer and Meinhardt proposed a reaction-diffusion system comprising of an activator and an inhibitor and made computer simulation of the regeneration and transplant experiments on hydra. Since then a sizable amount of literature has been published on the
activator-inhibitor system which is somewhat simplified. In this talk we give a closer look at the original model and inspect the effect of the spatial inhomogeneity in the coefficients of reaction terms and basic production term. Surprising enough, it turns out that the intensity of the inhomogeneity does affect resulting patterns.
