Abstract:

In early 1980s, Gromov and Lawson established the connection between index theory and positive curvature problems. For complete noncompact manifolds, higher index and coarse geometry naturally come into play.

In this talk, I will start with the basic definitions and facts from coarse geometry and index theory, and I will give a survey on recent development of relative coarse index theory and its application to positive curvature problems.
